Our Story

Get your affairs in order…then what?!

Why would a family hit by the tsunami that is Alzheimer’s dementia start a foundation? Quite frankly, we were stunned and stilled after the diagnosis of Younger Onset Alzheimer’s Disease came to my husband at the age of 50. As the doors to every future hope and dream was slammed shut, we became lost and our hope was fragile. After a time of deep grief and sorrow, we realized we were mourning a death that would eventually come, but was not imminent. Yes, our life as we knew it changed immediately and there were countless new challenges, but rather than sit vigil for a death watch we decided to put life into living with dementia. We sought help from the Alzheimer’s Association, support groups, and purposed to take control of the narrative of our story. Getting our affairs in order had the usual stuff like POA’s, final wishes, and trying to recover from catastrophic losses caused by the cognitive changes. How we were going to live this out with our three children, family, and community watching was also an important aspect of getting our affairs in order. When we looked deeper into the window that was dementia it became clear to us that Jose’ was still a vital member and able contributor to society. Our deeper look into the dementia window caused us to search for the why in the persistent question “why us?” We prayed and asked God for a way forward.
Through authentic hope and proactive courage the vision for
